June 7, 2012  Day 27                                   Total miles to date:  670.07
We had quite a long but interesting day. We left our anchorage at Saugerties along with Quest at 9:00 and arrived in Waterford at 4:45. We had the current against us so it made for a longer day. We passed two lighthouses, the Saugerties and the Hudson-Athens. All the lighthouses on the Hudson are unique and have provided good photo opportunities!  We continued to be impressed by the beauty of the Hudson River Valley. We are seeing mountains behind the hills and huge homes tucked away on hillsides and along the shoreline.  The river itself became narrower as we went further north and its wandering adds to its charm.

The scenery changed at the huge industrial seaport of Albany, along with its state capital building and other large buildings. The U-Haul building is quite interesting!  Shortly after passing Albany we arrived at Troy and experienced our first of many locks that we will have on the Loop.  Lock 1 at Troy is a Federal lock. It actually went smoothly and my initial concerns were alleviated. We locked through with Quest and were on our way to Waterford shortly.

Waterford is a lovely historic town at the junction of the Erie and Champlain Canals.  It has a Visitors Center that is truly welcoming. We are docked on the floating docks at the wall along the canal right in front of the Visitors Center.  We have electric and water hookups for only $10.00 a night.  We plan to stay here a couple of days.  We walked the few blocks into the downtown with Ricki and Carl (Quest) and had a nice fish & chips dinner. We called this a good day!
